Email intelligence provider Return Path has hired Scott Roth, formerly of Salesforce and ExactTarget, as its new chief marketing officer.
Roth was most recently vice president of global marketing for Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and was responsible for seeing through a successful IPO with ExactTarget, which was then acquired by Salesforce. Return Path and ExactTarget have been partnering for almost four years, with Roth helping to set it up.
Roth’s remit for the 400 employee-strong firm will cover demand generation, global market awareness, and brand development initiatives. He tells MarketingTech that because of working close to Return Path for four years meant he already knew around 30 to 40 employees.
“It’s been fantastic,” he says. “It’s been a great three weeks of getting up to speed, learning more about the company and the products.”
As part of this initiation Roth has spent a lot of his time wearing out a bit of shoe leather, getting in front of clients and talking shop with the heads of marketing. “It’s a great time to be out and about right now because everybody is either thinking full on or starting to think about 2015 priorities,” he says.
“It’s been really fun to go out and compare notes on what our clients are thinking about with regards their effort for next year.”
Roth describes himself as in a ‘unique’ position arriving at Return Path, and the company itself is positioned similarly, being partners with all the major marketing cloud vendors, such as Adobe, Oracle and Salesforce.
“You’ve got the lines drawing in the sand,” he explains. “What I personally love about Return Path, as a company, [it’s] partnered with all of the marketing clouds, all of the email service providers, all of the marketing service providers. Return Path provides tools and data and insights to help people do their marketing more effectively, generate more revenue from their marketing efforts, engage their customers better, and protect their brand.”
“Scott’s leadership experience and deep knowledge of the marketing technology landscape can take our business to the next level”, said Return Path CEO Matt Blumberg in a statement. “The chance to add a talent like his to the Return Path executive team came at a perfect time for us.”
